The Context

Here we have AJ Styles doing a shoot with RF Video where he talks about working his first ROH match with Low Ki. He talked about the difference between working in the Northeast and for a company like Wildside in terms of in-ring styles. He seemed really grateful for the opportunity to branch out, but talked about Ki lighting him up with chops until he couldn’t take it anymore.

As a worker, Styles talked about how great Low Ki was, how good his kicks looked, and that he wasn’t hurting you at all. As a person, he said he loved Ki, and they had even hung out a few times. Rob Feinstein, the former owner of ROH and the interviewer, asked whether Ki was his own worst enemy. AJ said he probably was, but stopped short of saying he took himself too seriously. He said Ki was just really protective of the character he created and talked about having it changed as Senshi in TNA and Kaval in WWE.

Analysis

You hear far more negative about Low Ki than positive, but AJ seemed to have a lot of respect for Low Ki as a performer and person. Even with the praise, AJ joined the fairly unanimous opinion that Low Ki’s attitude got in his way, even if AJ didn’t share the same opinion of that attitude.
