The Context
Here we have the dearly departed Jerry Jarrett finally addressing Bruce Prichard’s criticism.
For those who know, Prichard gained a lot of notoriety in the early days of his podcast by making fun of Jerry Jarrett, particularly his chicken salad recipe. Jerry told a story about a radio station in Memphis calling him to ask for the recipe as a joke because of Bruce’s podcast, and that he wasn’t aware of Bruce’s long-running bit until then. It should be noted that Jerry called the recipe “De-licious” and said that he uses apples and pecans (not grapes and walnuts as Bruce claimed), which was hilarious.
Jerry was pressed further on Bruce, and he alluded to Bruce being a yes-man and getting coffee for Pat Patterson. He also said he didn’t care much what Bruce thought of him because he never accomplished much. If you’re looking for why there has been so much heat on the Prichard side, Jarrett said he pulled him aside one day and asked what he actually did there. He went on to tell Bruce that if Vince went “to the pokey,” Bruce would be gone because Jerry would be running things.
Analysis
The biggest story is probably Jerry confirming he used apples and pecans in his chicken salad instead of grapes and walnuts. Who knows for sure whether he ever threatened Bruce’s job, but one thing is clear: Bruce probably hasn’t been honest about whether Jerry would have taken over for Vince if he had served jail time. This was when known Meltzer ally Jim Cornette (at the time) was working there, along with other known sources in the company, and the newsletters all had the same story. Even when Prichard and Cornette were still friendly, Jim guesses Bruce was jealous because he wasn’t selected to fill in, and Jerry was an outsider. Who knows for sure, but I’m glad I know two ingredients to make the infamous chicken salad, at least.
