The Context
Since we just watched Ron Killings proclaim himself the Truth, here’s Ron Killings in 2004 talking about TNA and Jeff Jarrett. He says the first time he met Jarrett, Jeff thanked him for taking care of Road Dogg at the end of Truth’s WWE run. Although Killings doesn’t state it, he and RD teamed up at the end of Dogg’s tenure with WWE in 2000, when he was dealing with some serious personal and drug issues, so I’m sure there was some babysitting. Killings said he hit it off with Jeff that night and believes Jarrett always had big plans for him, but wanted to see what he could handle at the new company first. Since this was 2004, Killings said he also believes TNA needed weekly TV and to go head-to-head with Vince on Monday nights to flourish. He talked about not wanting to work for WWE because of all the negative things one had to deal with to make the money.
Analysis
Well, Killings ended up being dead wrong about TNA’s Monday night philosophy, something we would find out in 2010. Also, it was worth going back for WWE money, not too long after this, and he stayed forever. Killings is probably right that Jeff always had big plans for him because he got put with the NASCAR drivers right away, meaning he was expected to be in clips the guys were hoping would find their way to SportsCenter or other sports news programming. He hit the ball out of the park.
