The Context 

Here we have Ric Flair on his old “Whoooo Nation” podcast with Mark Madden, talking about the plastic bag angle we just reviewed on Clash VIII. He said the angle almost got them kicked off TV and that he had no idea it was coming, adding that Terry improvised. He also discussed their feud as a whole and explained why he didn’t like working babyface, even though the Funk feud worked. Flair said he didn’t think he had the flashy offensive moves to be a babyface, and thought the chops and whoos and making everyone else look good were why he was better suited to work as a heel. 

Analysis 

First, Flair saying they were almost “kicked off TBS” is fairly absurd since they owned the company. Were they going to close them down? That’s doubtful, but angry viewers did call the station, so there was legit heat within management. The interesting comments to me were about working babyface. Maybe at one time those things would have been true, but the two things Flair specifically mentions, the chops and whooos, became spots guaranteed to pop the crowd. It’s too bad, and it cost us a few outstanding Flajr babyface runs, including this one that ended far too soon.
