The Context 

Here we have Rick Steiner talking about his time working for Bill Watts. First, he talks about his time in Mid-South and says he always got along with Watts because Watts loved amateur wrestlers. He went on with a sort of blended timeline with wrestler brain and appeared to forget Jim Crockett’s name. 

He also discussed how Watts and Scott had a confrontation backstage in each other’s faces because Scott was pissed that Bill’s son, Erik Watts, hurt Arn Anderson in a match. Rick says this led to Rick being offered a WCW renewal but not Scott, so they went to the WWF. 

Analysis 

Hm. It should be noted that Scott Steiner was beginning a heel turn on television and had just won the TV title when he departed. What Rick never mentions is that Watts was redoing contracts at this time to get rid of guaranteed contracts and pay guys on the nightly houses, with only $1k being the max for a main eventer. It seems hard to believe Scott wasn’t offered a deal and Rick was. This might be a wrestler trying to remember something from decades prior, but I’m sure he remembered why Scott confronted Watts or that it happened, even if he didn’t remember the reasons they left WCW.
