06/12/1995 NJPW: IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title Match: Sabu (C) def. Black Tiger in 15:52
This was when Sabu was a part of Murder Inc., and none too happy to be classified as a Jr. Heavyweight. In fact, he slammed the title down after winning and told the crowd he wasn’t a Jr. Heavyweight. Sabu worked much more in a traditional Jr. Heavyweight style early on, doing some mat wrestling and a few flying spots, sans tables. Sabu wasn’t a bad mat wrestler when he tried, but being in there with someone as good as Eddy also showed it wasn’t necessarily a strength. The action was solid but also began to escalate into a more traditional Sabu style, with a chair and table rearing their heads. Sabu had Tiger set up on a table against the guardrail and tried jumping on him, but Tiger moved, and Sabu went crashing through it. Sabu eventually won with a springboard moonsault off the top rope in kind of a flat finish. The crowd was into it, but there were also some inherent problems here. **3/4
