11/12/1991 WWF: Randy Savage def. Jake Roberts by countout in 5:07

This was when Savage was still working the retirement angle on TV, but seemed to be seeking revenge as the “mysterious” Mr. Madness. So there was no confusion, they made it crystal clear in all the localized promos for the event by letting Savage cut promos in the shadows. For the match here, while being announced as Mr. Madness. Savage walks out to his WWF version of Pomp and Circumstance and is dressed in full 1991 Randy Savage gear. I realize it sounds minor in 2026, but they could have been a little more clever here with at least a mask or something. Could Jack Tunney not fire Savage because he wasn’t there to witness all of this physically? The match itself was at the end of a TV taping and very short, but full of action while it lasted. The crowd seemed tired when the match started, but they were beginning to pull the fans into it, especially as Jake teased using the cobra while sporting the big black glove. Savage just started making his comeback when Jake went for the cobra, and Savage came into the ring with a chair, and Jake fled. There was never a bell or an announcement, but I’m assuming Savage won this by countout. This was a prototypical dark match main event at the end of a long TV taping. The work was solid, but the finish was lazy. *3/4
