(10/13/1990 World Championship Wrestling) US Tag Team Title Match: Steiners (champions) def. The Midnight Express (with Jim Cornette) in 11:28. It’s the Midnights, so you know they did a tremendous job of bumping around for all the Steiners’ power stuff, particularly Bobby. You might say it was a little repetitive early, perhaps. Somehow, they squeezed in double-heat on the Steiners in a match that didn’t go long past ten minutes. They did a fantastic false finish with Cornette blasting Rick over the head with the tennis racket and Rick kicking out at the VERY end of a cover. Not doing that a hundred other times in the match sure did help make the fans think that might be it, but I digress. The way Cornette sold the kick-out also deserves a shout-out, as if his eyes were about to bug right out of his head. Everything about that looked and was executed so well by all parties. The Steiners got the win when they gave Stan a heart attack behind the ref’s back. This match didn’t have as much crowd heat as it sometimes should, but it was still terrific, and the finishing sequence was superb. It’s too bad these two teams finally got programmed together when the Midnights were in the process of being pushed out the door. Bob Caudle and Jim Ross couldn’t stop putting over the Steiners’ upcoming match with the Nasty Boys, treating the Express like cannon fodder here. ***3/4
