06/25/2006: John Cena def. Sabu in 6:40. Holy shit, what a delightfully wild mess. This was from Vengeance 2006 and right at the beginning of the abysmal WWECW launch. It should be noted that Cena was sporting a black eye from an errant Sabu chair toss on the Raw before this PPV after beating Balls Mahoney, because yes, John Cena vs. Balls Mahoney was a match that happened in 2006. Sabu was less than pristine with his moves here (even by Sabu standards), but he wasn’t really blowing spots, and that also worked in this context because he acted like a guy trying to hit his stuff without his opponent’s cooperation. It should be noted that this was a lumberjack match, so the outside was flooded with Raw and ECW geeks. They did the obligatory throwing a guy out to the opposing lumberjacks’ spot a couple of times before it escalated into a brawl. Cena went out there and gave poor Stevie Richards an AA into the crowd to show him his spot in the WWE pecking order. Sabu was going to do a triple jump dive onto Cena on a table on the outside, but he stood up and opted to blast Sabu in the head with a cane instead. Near the finish, he gave Sabu an AA through the same table on the outside from inside the ring and did it in a fairly careless way, and poor Sabu looked like he may have broken his ass on the edge. Back in the ring, STFU submission, and Cena overcomes. This was short, but wild and fun. **3/4
