The Context
Jim Cornette talked about a story that he heard from Bobby Fulton about Fulton and Buddy Landel in Memphis in 1986. For those that know, this was also in the middle of Landel’s team with Bill Dundee drawing the last Mid South Coliseum sellout against Jerry Lawler and Dutch Mantel.
Buddy was incredibly drunk and kept spitting tobacco juice near Bobby in the locker room. After several warnings, Landel spat right above Bobby’s gear. Bobby waited for Buddy to get up, took the chair he was sitting on, and hit Landel in the fucking head. Buddy pulled out a pistol from his back, and the MOD SQUAD (The Jeffers brothers) rushed Landel like Fulton, “was the President,” according to Cornette, and they had his arm and the gun in the air. Then, Bill Dundee took out a knife from his bag and put it to Landel’s throat and said, “Drop the gun, Budrow.”
Cornette made a point to mention that there was no lingering heat between anyone after, and how guys block each other on Twitter now. Cornette’s vivid descriptions and storytelling ability only added to the presentation of this story. He will defintely make you laugh throughout – an outstanding recap by Corny.
Analysis
If Cornette saw this, I would believe it because he doesn’t seem to exaggerate too much in stories like these, but it’s second-hand from Bobby Fulton. Still, a very drunk and defiant Buddy Landel inciting an incident in a Southern rasslin locker room where weapons were brandished is absolutely feasible. Plus, don’t we all REALLY want to believe this story?
