The Context

So here we have Demolition Ax (Bill Eadie) talking about a potential WCW Demolition run, a possible singles program, and ownership of the Demolition IP.

The Demolition IP story concludes the clip (spoiler – He owns it), but the fascinating story here is a proposed WCW run

Eadie says that Ole Anderson wanted to bring him in as The Masked Superstar to work with Vader, but that he talked Ole into taking the Demolition tag team because they were better known at the time. Eadie says they ultimately turned it down because of all the factions in WCW vying for power behind the scenes.

Analysis

Holy shit – Vader?! I believe this story because of Ole and Eadie’s relationship, which goes back to when Masked Superstar worked for Ole in Georgia, and because Ole was clearly into bringing back some of the older stars during this run as booker. Eadie had a rep for working snug, but not full-on dangerous like Vader could be. It would have been interesting to see that match in 1990, but even Ax jokes that he’s probably lucky it didn’t happen. It would have been an interesting match or program, however.

I’m assuming this would have been when Ax was finishing up in the WWF in the Fall of 1990, so how does a Demolition WCW run look at that timeframe? Doom has the tag team titles as heels, so I could see a babyface run, but also them coming in as heels and working the Steiners. Either way, they could have used the tag team depth with the Nasty Boys leaving WCW in late-Fall, the Midnight Express disolving when Jim Cornette and Stan Lane also bolt, and Robert Gibson being on the shelf and putting the Rock & Roll Express on ice. A veteran like Eadie could tell what a disaster the political climate in WCW was like.
