The Context
Here we have a little clip of Sid Vicious talking about Sting & Ric Flair.
In his words, he believed he was supposed to win the WCW title at Halloween Havoc 1990 from Sting. Sid says he was told that (but doesn’t say by whom), and also theorizes that Ric Flair killed it because he was too young.
He also talked a little about taking Ric Flair into the crowd during a match and “beating the shit out of him” because Flair told Sid he didn’t know what to do with him because he was too big.
Analysis
Who the fuck knows about beating up Flair in the crowd, but it seems unlikely. It’s also possible he was snug, and it was another iron thrown into the fire of reasons others didn’t like the big man. Interestingly enough, this would have likely been in 1993, and there is the blowup that later ensues with Flair & Arn Anderson, so it is possible.
As for the WCW title at Halloween Havoc 1990, Ole Anderson was booking, and Jim Herd ran the company. This seems even more unlikely for several reasons:
- I can’t see Ole Anderson deciding to run with Sid Vicious as world champion.
- Why would WCW hold off on putting the world title on Sting until he returned from his knee injury, then take it off of him at his first PPV defense?
- Why would Sid win the title when they were continuing the Sting/Black Scorpion angle?
- The biggest reason is that Flair had contractual control of the NWA/WCW title at this stage. It’s entirely possible Sid didn’t know this until the day he passed, but it came to light when Flair left the company in 1991. I don’t think Flair would have okayed this, pushing himself further down the card (duh).
