Tri-State Wrestling Alliance: 09/15/1990: Eddie Gilbert def. Cactus Jack in 14:28. This was from TWA’s first Autumn Armageddon show in 1990, and only a precursor to the violence that would ensue between these men in future months for TWA. Both men were assed out in WCW when Ole Anderson took the book, and had to apply their trade here for Joel Goodhart. Both cut promos before the match to establish Eddie as the heel and Cactus as the babyface, since no one could see Mick Foley in that role in 1990. Foley showed a little humor for the Philly faithful, while Eddie pretty openly hid a chain from the ref to start. Eddie worked a knee injury after failing to clear Cactus on a leapfrog, and Cactus wowed the crowd by showing psychology, including applying the world’s slowest applied figure-four. Actually, they began the boring chants, but that’s pretty on brand for what would end up being the early ECW crowd. Eddie used the aforementioned chain by repeatedly bashing Cactus with it, but it didn’t have much impact, and the match just sort of continued. Cactus eventually popped the crowd with the Cactus clothesline and then went crashing into the guardrail, going after Gilbert. Eddie used a couple of ultraviolent SHOULDER TACKLES, much to the crowd’s apathy. Cactus had sort of an abbreviated comeback until Eddie won with the hotshot. This was a really bland match, given the participants, but there would be blood and guts to come later. **
