We’re setting up this Southern greatness!

06/02/1991 WCW Main Event: Dustin Rhodes & Bobby Eaton vs. Terrence Taylor & Arn Anderson: You could have told me Dustin was teaming with any of these guys against the other two, and I would have believed it. There’s zero reason why Arn shouldn’t have become Arnold Anderson for at least this one match. You know you miss Southern Rasslin when you see Dustin Rhodes and Bobby Eaton cleaning house with big right hands, and it pops you in your living room. Arn was so fucking excellent at being a chicken shit heel and being believable when he was beating someone’s ass. He has to be one of the best ever at that. Taylor was also good here as the bumping heel, but Arn does it with the extra personality that connects with the crowd. The guys gave Dustin the first four or so minutes to shine like his dad was booking the promotion. Weird. Arn broke out a fucking Gordbuster as a transition spot, and Taylor followed it up with a Ligerbomb. Holy shit, Arn Anderson and Terry Taylor are my new favorite tag team of all time! Ricky Morton, who, it should be noted, was in the babyfaces’ corner looking ridiculous in his 1991 denim duster, started talking to Alexandra York and Mr. Hughes. This distracted the pure and virtuous Dustin Rhodes (who may have been the only wrestler in the promotion that didn’t just assume Ricky was trying to bang the future Marlena), and he started arguing with Ricky. Ricky left, allowing everyone to be distracted, and Mr. Hughes nailed Bobby Eaton with the deadly BLACK GLOVE while Bobby was on top. Taylor got the pin at 6:52. Fuck, that was fun while it lasted. That was a good TV wrestling match. *** Dustin almost accidentally hit York after the match, so she fainted, and Mr. Hughes belted him with the BLACK GLOVE (albeit with an awful-looking punch). Men’s Accessories: 2 Pro Wrestlers: 0. Hughes got a lot of run here for a guy that never broke the midcard. This foreshadowed Morton’s turning heel soon on Robert Gibson, creating one of history’s most firmly midcard stables – The York Foundation. Good times for all were on the way.
