(WWC 09/17/1988) WWC Caribbean Heavyweight Title Match: Buddy Landel (champion) v. TNT: It doesn’t matter if it’s in the rural mountains of West Virginia or Bayamon – Buddy Landel knows how to work to get fucking HEAT. This match was no exception. Not only was Landel doing his part, but TNT obliged with some excellent, snug work. TNT is, of course, the future WWF Savio Vega, one hell of an underrated wrestler. These two beat the ever-loving shit out of one another with chops that thundered throughout the arena. TNT had Landel pinned multiple times, and Buddy put his foot on the ropes each time, prompting the babyface TNT to haul off and punch Landel in the balls. Ouch, man. They’re speaking Spanish, but this ain’t Lucha because the referee has zero fucks to give about a low blow. I know they were feuding over this title at the time, and Landel beat TNT for it the month prior, but I can’t remember what in this feud brought us to this point, but it was probably wild, given it’s Puerto Rico. Buddy put the heat on, and both men did a good job getting the crowd behind TNT, even breaking out the figure-four. TNT eventually made his comeback, but Buddy attempted a jumping knee and got caught up in the ropes, finally falling to the mat. TNT went for another cover with Landel getting his feet on the ropes again, but this time TNT took it off without the ref seeing it at 12:30. That was a weird finish for a babyface reclaiming his title. Still, they’re booking wrestling for a living, and I’m typing match reviews at 5:00 AM, so what the fuck do I know? The finish was a little wonky, but this was very good until then. ***1/4
