Americas Title Match: Rick Rude (champion with Percy Pringle) def. Iceman King Parsons in 11:07
Rude didn’t hit his stride as a singles wrestler until he went to the WWF, so this was very safe and pedestrian for the strapping young lad with the chiseled abs.. I love Iceman like I love a nice, salted potato chip, but there wasn’t much he could show here with a young guy still finding his footing as a top act solo wrestler. I always enjoyed Paul Bearer/Bill Moody in the Percy Pringle role, but he wasn’t doing anything memorable here to significantly raise the quality of this bout. Rude bored us using long ass restholds, even though the crowd was mainly into the match as a whole. That’s one thing about that World Class crowd – even as we’re heading past the boom period here in late-1985, the fans were still fucking tremendous. Late in the match, Iceman missed a crossbody off the second rope, and Rude beat him with a horribly botched small package in 11:07. Despite the crowd heat, this dragged way too much at times, and that finish was atrocious, especially considering the heel went over clean with that crime against wrestling humanity. Whew, thankfully for all of us, Rude got so much better. The only reason to watch this is to see how much Rude progressed from this as a wrestler. *
